This is a copy of what appears on the inside cover of my article sets in the Colgate University Fitness Center You may ask yourself how articles which mention the words "elite athlete" or "bodybuilder" can apply to you. Well, the fact is that the best and virtually only source of quality information on general health, exercise, and nutrition are those which are geared towards athletes and written by athletes and trainers. You have probably read articles from those popular magazines. The authors many times have little background or personal experience. These magazines sell by having celebrities, suggestive pictures, and promises to reveal the secrets of "how to have better sex". We've all seen it. And how often has the "88 New Ways to Shed Fat" helped you? Well, quality information does not appear at the checkout counter. We save those articles for people who want to "think about becoming healthy." We know you actually want to. To bring you quality information, we have gone to the experts on nutrition and exercise. The very basic goal of athletes and bodybuilders is to gain muscle and lose fat. Split this into two goals, and you get: 1) Lose fat without losing muscle 2) Gain muscle without getting fat Either or both of these options is what all exercisers and dieters are aiming for. Achieving these goals leads to a good looking body, and a body that is as healthy as it looks, unlike the popular methods, which sacrifice large amounts of muscle for the sake of a few pounds of fat loss. You don't have to be an elite athlete or bodybuilder to use this information. And, (especially females) if you don't want to look like the pro bodybuilders you may see on TV, don't worry! Drugs such as growth hormone, anabolic steroids, insulin, clenbuterol, diuretics, and thyroid hormone, among others, are involved in creating those bodies; the bodybuilder we refer to is similar to those featured on the board outside the fitness center. This "bodybuilder" is just the average gal or guy who trains with the previously mentioned goals in mind. Lastly, we hope you enjoy the articles, and appreciate your comments on making the fitness center a better place to train. |
